In 2011, I graduated with an undergraduate MA (Hons) English (2:1) from the University of St Andrews and in 2013, I graduated with a postgraduate MA in Postcolonial Studies (Distinction) from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Throughout these courses, I took modules in other disciplines including Classical Studies, Modern History, Critical Theory and Philosophy. I have been providing academic tuition since I started my degree in 2013.
In July 2017, I graduated from the University of Leeds with a First Class degree in English Literature & Language and two university prizes.
I am passionate about my subject and committed to helping young people enjoy their learning and fulfill their potential. I have the ability to communicate subject expertise with patience, warmth and enthusiasm and I enjoy tutoring students of varying abilities across a range of academic levels.From September 2017, I worked at a Leeds secondary school as a Teaching Assistant and acting Head Librarian on a 9 month temporary contract. I understand how crucial education is in shaping a person’s life chances and how, sadly, some shy away from their learning for fear of failure. These are children I can very readily help, as the ability to make learning an exciting, stimulating and enjoyable experience is a key ingredient of effective tuition. I see this consistently in my work with primary-age children, improving their reading and English comprehension skills. My love of teaching grew out of supporting children and young people in schools, colleges and the community whilst working in Community Development.
